Located on the prominent corner of Kensington High Street and Warwick Road, the Kensington Primary Academy is a new independent school with the aim of being one of the best primary schools in the country.
Designed by Squire and Partners, the standalone building provides all of the facilities for the school. With restricted space on a irreguar shaped plot, the architect has responded with an intelligent design that provides one of the best teaching environments.
The school building overlooks the linear park and features semi-external playdecks and a multi use games court on the roof of the building. The façade employs a playful and animated design with brightly coloured reveals in the elevation, and an oblique colonnaded entrance.
The school was opened in September 2016 with one reception class of 30 children and will increase year group by year group until it has a full complement of children by 2022. Eventually, the single form entry school will accommodate a total of 210 pupils aged from 4-11 years old.
In order to meet the fire requirements of Approved Document B and the acoustic requirements for schools of Approved Document E, Shadbolt manufactured and supplied bespoke quarter cut American white oak veneered fire and acoustic performance doors and doorsets.
